It is our belief at School Year Abroad that there can be no excellence in education without the participation of students from diverse backgrounds. In a typical year, some 40 percent of our families receive more than $3 million in grants averaging approximately 60 percent of tuition costs. SYA strives to meet the need of all admitted students who qualify for financial aid; however, we cannot guarantee that all families who qualify for financial aid will receive a grant. Families who are concerned that SYA may be beyond their means are encouraged to apply for financial aid and to look into financing options that can make SYA an affordable and realistic choice.
We understand that the decision to pay for a child’s education requires careful consideration. Long experience has taught us that SYA is a very sound investment, for it proves year after year to have a profoundly positive effect on our students’ personal growth, high school career and college prospects.
Families requesting financial assistance indicate their intention to apply for aid by indicating so on their child's application. We will then send you detailed instructions and necessary forms (learn more about the financial assistance application process).
The deadline for all Financial Aid documents for the 2013-2014 school year is February 15, 2013. This deadline applies to all applicants, including those from SYA's member schools. All grants are based on families' demonstrated need. SYA's financial aid committee determines the level of all grants after admissions decisions have been made.
We understand that your 2012 Income Tax Return may not be prepared by our application deadline. Therefore, we ask you to estimate your tax information on the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) and submit the most recent tax return available. We must have a copy of your most recent Income Tax Return with schedules before we can confirm your financial aid scholarship award.
